Striker Bala Devi says Mary Kom is an inspiration for me

Striker Bala Devi says Mary Kom is an inspiration for me

National team striker Bala Devi, who recently became the first Indian woman to score a goal in Europe, idolizes legendary boxer MC Mary Kom.

Bala said she had met her biggest source of inspiration during the Asian Games in 2014 and termed record six-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medalist a friendly person. “Mary Kom is a big source of inspiration for me. She came from such humble beginnings and through her hard work, she broke so many records. Even after becoming a mother, she continues to break records and win laurels for the country,” Bala told AIFF TV.

“We interacted at the Asian Games in 2014 and watched her train. She is a very friendly person and also supported us during our games,” she added.
Earlier this year, the attacker signed for Scottish side Rangers Women FC and credited the ‘international exposure’ provided by the federation as a key factor as Indian football moves forward together.

“I have represented India a lot. In my mind, I always wanted to play at the international level and after the AIFF gave us so many international exposure tours, I gained a lot of experience of playing against European teams and I realized that I can play and compete with them,” opined Bala.
“Then, I started seeking out teams and eventually chose to sign for Rangers as they are one of the best clubs in the world. I heard a lot about them and they also have a blue jersey like the Indian team,” she added.

Bala made her debut for Rangers FC in the Scottish Women’s Premier League in February, before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill.
With the competition having resumed since October, the mercurial forward created history as she scored her first competitive goal for the club on Sunday in a win against Motherwell.

“Ever since I gave my trials at this club, I wanted to inspire every Indian player back home. I have always stayed positive and have wanted to be an inspiration for all the girls and young players in India who want to play internationally. It is something that has always been on my mind and I take it into account every time I step on to the pitch,” she said.

Subsequently, the striker was named as a nominee for the AFC International Player of the Week alongside star names such as Iran’s Sardar Azmoun, Korea Republic’s Son Heung-min, and Japanese icon Saki Kumagai.

“After the goal, a lot of people wished me, and many were talking and writing about it, which made me feel very proud,” Bala said.
“After that, I was nominated for the AFC Player of the Week, and seeing my name on the list alongside such icons made me happy. I just want everyone to continue supporting us so we can keep achieving bigger things for the country in the future,” she signed off.

Gambhir, Laxman, Harbhajan wishes Yuvraj Singh as he turns 39

Wishes pour in for former India all-rounder and 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh as he turned 39 on Saturday.

His former teammates Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman, Harbhajan Singh among others took to Twitter to extend their birthday greetings to the southpaw. Taking to Twitter, Gambhir wrote, “Wishing India’s man of both world cups and my dear brother @YUVSTRONG12 a very happy birthday! Your journey has been an inspiration for millions Prince! Stay healthy and happy always!”
“Happy birthday brother @YUVSTRONG12 #SixerKing #HappyBirthdayYuvi,” Harbhajan tweeted.

Former batsman Laxman termed the left-hander as inspiration and said he carries everlasting joy and happiness with him.
“Warm Birthday wishes to a friend who is an inspiration and who has given all of us hope, everlasting joy, and happiness. May God showers you with blessings today and always @YUVSTRONG12,” he tweeted.

Former all-rounder Suresh Raina, who retired from international cricket in August this year alongside MS Dhoni, also extended his greetings to Yuvraj on his birthday.
“Happy Birthday Yuvi Pa @YUVSTRONG12. May you be the healthiest & happiest always. Keep shining & keep inspiring us forever. Here is to all our wonderful memories on & off the field.#HappyBirthdayYuvi,” Raina tweeted

Earlier in the day, Yuvraj Singh took to social media to announce that rather than celebrating his birthday this year, he wished for a speedy resolution of the ongoing conflict between farmers and the Central government. He also distanced himself from remarks made by his father Yograj Singh endorsing the sportspersons returning their awards to support the agitation.

Yuvraj Singh announced retirement from all forms of cricket on June 10 last year. In a career that spanned over 304 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and 40 Tests, Yuvraj Singhimprinted his place in the echelons of cricket as a player who could pretty much win matches for his side either through his electric fielding, deceptive bowling, or fierce batting.

BSE launches e-agricultural spot market platform

BSE E-Agricultural Markets Ltd (BEAM) will allow farmers in one state to reach out to markets in other states and auction their product

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: BSE (earlier known as Bombay Stock Exchange) has launched an electronic spot platform for agricultural commodities through its subsidiary BSE Investments Ltd.

BSE E-Agricultural Markets Ltd (BEAM) will function as a national level, institutionalized, electronic, transparent commodity spot trading platform in line with the Prime Minister’s vision to create a single market, BSE said in a statement on Friday. With the help of BEAM, farmers in one state will be able to reach out to markets in other states and auction their produce.

This will not only help farmers and farmer collectives discover the best prices for their products based on the quality but also offers to build capacity to help intermediaries, processors and exporters procure from states.

The platform facilitates spot agricultural commodities transactions across the value chain consisting of producers, intermediaries, ancillary services, and consumers, said BSE.

“Access to the regulated and transparent marketplace, direct access to multiple buyers, receipt of cash directly into the account of the beneficiary, and reduction in intermediate costs are some of the major benefits of the platform,” said BSE’s Managing Director and CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan.
BEAM has leveraged modern technology to offer customized solutions to farmers, traders, and stakeholders to facilitate risk-free and hassle-free purchase and sale of various Agri commodities.

BSE said the platform will ensure reduced cost of intermediation, improved procurement efficiency, enhanced producers’ realization, and more competitive consumer prices. The platform will also help eliminate bottlenecks associated with procurement and trading.

Researchers rank various mask protection, modifications against COVID

Researchers rank various mask protection, modifications against COVID

Adoption of face coverings during the COVID-19 pandemic became commonplace

Washington

While wearing a face mask is an extremely essential measure to not only protect the wearer from expelling particles that might carry SARS-CoV-2, some people, though, still refuse to wear a mask. So, scientists researched the protectiveness of various kinds of consumer-grade and modified masks, assuming the wearer was exposed to the novel coronavirus, like when we interact with an unmasked infected person.

The UNC School of Medicine scientists, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency, led the study published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.

The research shows that some masks were as much as 79 per cent effective at blocking particles that could carry the virus. These were masks made of two layers of woven nylon and fit snug against the wearer’s face. Unmodified medical procedure masks with ear loops – also known as surgical masks – offered 38.5 per cent filtration efficacy, but when the ear loops were tied in a specific way to tighten the fit, the efficacy improved to 60.3 per cent. And when a layer of nylon was added, these masks offered 80 per cent effectiveness.

“While modifications to surgical masks can enhance the filtering capabilities and reduce inhalation of airborne particles by improving the fit of the mask, we demonstrated that the fitted filtration efficiencies of many consumer-grade masks were nearly equivalent to or better than surgical masks,” said co-first author Phillip Clapp, PhD, an inhalation toxicologist and assistant professor of paediatrics at the UNC School of Medicine.

Co-first author Emily Sickbert-Bennett, PhD, director of infection prevention at the UNC Medical Center, added, “Limiting the amount of virus is important because the more viral particles we’re exposed to, the more likely it is we will get sick and potentially severely ill.”

As the adoption of face coverings during the COVID-19 pandemic became commonplace, there was a rapid expansion in the public use of commercial, home-made, and improvised masks which vary considerably in design, material, and construction. There have been a number of innovative “hacks,” devices, and mask enhancements that claim to improve the performance characteristics of conventional masks – typically surgical or procedure masks. Despite their widespread dissemination and use during the pandemic, there have been few evaluations of the efficiency of these face coverings or mask enhancements at filtering airborne particles.

In this study, the researchers used a recently described methodological approach based on the OSHA Fit Test to determine the fitted filtration efficiency (FFE) of a variety of consumer-grade and improvised facemasks, as well as several popular modifications of medical procedure masks. Seven consumer-grade masks and five medical procedure mask modifications were fitted on an adult male, and FFE measurements were collected during a series of repeated movements of the torso, head, and facial muscles as outlined by the OSHA Quantitative Fit Testing Protocol.

Dental implants – the most emerging option in cosmetic makeover and teeth restoration in Mumbai

Dental implants – the most emerging option in cosmetic makeover and teeth restoration in Mumbai

Today, most dentists recommend dental implants to patients with damaged or broken teeth as a reliable option to restore their teeth and facial appearance.

Dental health is essential for a healthy body and mind. Today’s lifestyle and erratic schedule make it difficult to maintain strong and healthy teeth. At times, teeth get damaged or broken leading to unattractive facial appearance and persona. Cosmetic dentists offer a wide range of dental restoration treatments including dental implants to such people to make them look good and feel confident.

ClinicSpots, a healthcare Q and Ans portal, sought insights from Dr Kartik Poonja of Face Essentials, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, who cites, ‘With dental implants, we can replace cracked or crooked teeth or their irregular shaped teeth with normal and natural-looking teeth. And give a better smile and look to the patient. Many of my cosmetic makeover patients are very happy with their new smile.’

Dr Kartik Poonja is an accomplished multifaceted maxillofacial surgeon with seven-plus years of hands-on experience. He is an expert in reconstructive surgery of the face, mouth, jaw, and neck with a high success rate in blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, facelift surgery, and once orthognathic surgery, and trauma surgery.Dr Kartik, a renowned dentist in Vashi, adds the dental implants require care similar to that of dental bridges. He emphasizes that dental implants are a boon if the patients maintain their dental hygiene routine regularly. He states that the patients require to brush their teeth twice a day for a minimum of two minutes, preferably with an electric toothbrush followed by flossing in and around the collar of the implant.’ He added it is equally important to visit the dentist every six months for a routine checkup and ensure the dental implants are well in place.

On similar lines, Dr Jyotsna Anjankar, Periodontist and Oral Implantologist of Everest Dental Solutions, Andheri in Mumbai, states, ‘Oral hygiene and dental health has been compromised a great deal. But with dental restoration procedures and dental implants, the dentists can save natural teeth from further decay or replace them with implants so that the patients can look good and eat healthily.

Dr Jyotsna expressed her concern about the poor oral health of adults as well as children, especially with regards to white spots on teeth, caries, bad breath, gum inflammation, and bleeding. Most of her patients have been treated for cavities, gum issues and so on. She also offers orthodontist treatment to adults who wish to realign their teeth for a better smile.

Dr Jyotsna Anjankar is one of the top dentists in Andheri, Mumbai and heads the Everest Dental Solutions, a state-of-the-art dental clinic. She and her team of well trained and accomplished dentists offer general dental treatments, teeth whitening, veneers, endodontic treatments, dental implants, and invisible braces, to name a few of them.

Dr Jyotsana reiterates the importance of practising good dental habits, especially brushing twice a day in gentle, circular motions to remove plaque for a couple of minutes.

Today, most people consume soft drinks, pastries, cookies, and candies loaded with sugars that lead to tooth decay. It is advisable to study the ingredient labels on food products and beverages and immediately clean their teeth after consuming them. The most important tip is the dentist’s annual dental checkup for a thorough dental examination and suggests dental treatments if required.

Mumbai, being one of India’s topmost metropolitan offers the latest cosmetic dentistry services at affordable prices. Moreover, most of the dental clinics offer holistic dental treatment as they have a panel of the treatment-specific dentists who are available on call. Hence, they are willing to focus on either a single dental issue or multiple issues at the convenience of their patients.

Apart from domestic residents even visiting medical tourists are always eager to get their teeth treated or go ahead with smile restoration along with their other scheduled medical treatment when in India.

Rohit Sharma passes a fitness test: Ind vs Aus

Rohit Sharma passes a fitness test: Ind vs Aus

Opener Rohit Sharma has been declared fit by the physios at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) following his hamstring during the Indian Premier League.

The batsman Rohit Sharma had reached the NCA in Bengaluru on November 19 and was set to undergo a fitness test on Friday. In the developments said the batsman is fit for the rigors of international cricket. “He has passed the fitness test and the future course of action will be decided by the BCCI and the selection committee,” the source said.

The BCCI had informed of the decision to add Rohit Sharma to the squad for the Test series against Australia after initially excluding him from the tour due to the hamstring injury.

Source – Social Media

“The BCCI Medical Team has been monitoring Rohit Sharma’s fitness and has briefed All-India Senior Selection Committee on the same. In consultation with Sharma, it has been decided to rest him for the ODIs and T20Is in Australia to regain full fitness and he has been included in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” the BCCI said in a release on November 9.

While the Indian players who were part of the IPL final on November 10 moved into the bubble for the national team that very night in Dubai, Rohit had flown back to India and later headed to the NCA to complete his rehabilitation.

Source – Social Media

Speaking to the media on November 26, India skipper Virat Kohli had said the confusion over Rohit’s injury status is something that should have been avoided and there should have been clarity on the whole matter.

“Well, before we had the selection meeting in Dubai, we got a mail two days before which said that Rohit is unavailable for selection because of the injury he picked up during the IPL. It mentioned a two-week rest and rehab period, and it said that the pros and cons of the injury were explained to Rohit and he understood that.

It was the information we got by mail but after that, he played in the IPL. We all thought that he would be on the flight to Australia which he wasn’t and we had no information whatsoever on the reason behind him not flying to Australia,” Kohli had said.

“After that, the only information we have received on mail is that he is at NCA and he will be further assessed on December 11. So from the time the selection meeting happened and the IPL ended and now when this mail came about his assessment, there has been lack of clarity, we have been playing the waiting game on this issue and this is not ideal at all,” he added.
