MX Player gets the Filmfare Black Lady home

MX Player Walks Away with the Filmfare Black Lady for Best Unscripted (non-fiction) Original (series/special) that was awarded to Times of Music.

MX Player, the Indian entertainment super app, has been widely recognised for its diverse slate of engaging MX Originals. Its unique music reality chat show – Times of Music introduced audiences to a one-of-a-kind concept that celebrated and brought together 20 legendary composers who successfully rewrote history and reinvented each other’s most celebrated tunes.

It also made history with its successful win in the Best Unscripted (non-fiction) Original (series/special) category at the maiden edition of the Flyx Filmfare OTT Awards.

Elaborating on the win, Gautam Talwar, Chief Content Officer – MX Player said, “Launched during the lockdown, it truly was one of a kind concept and idea that brought the best composers in the Indian film industry, for the first time, on one of the largest musical stages to exist in the digital world. This series is extremely special to all of us and I am so happy that we could pull off a feat such as this – with timeless music, unforgettable conversations and above all, the ode we paid to the spirit of music and the power it has to unite us all.”

The show brought forth the spirit of camaraderie and highlighted the passion for music in an otherwise competitive industry, giving viewers a new flavour to their iconic favourites and brightening their lockdown.

Amaal Mallik, one of the composers on the show, said “It’s always a pleasure to win the black lady, and it’s all the more special this time because it’s for a show that celebrated the people who are usually the last to be credited – composers. It was such a great experience on set, we were all a part of one team, sharing some of our best stories and doing what we know best, which is creating music. I am honoured to be a part of this rich heritage of Indian music and share the same stage with seniors and legends from the fraternity such as Bappi Da, Pyarelalji, Anandji amongst others.”

Amit Trivedi shared his view saying, “OTT platforms have opened so many new doors for artists, across fields. Part storytelling and led by some of the finest musicians of our time – with this series, MX Player has truly raised the bar of musical entertainment. Getting recognised by a body like Filmfare for a concept like this is a great encouragement for composers. The response to the show has been great and I’m hoping such collaborative shows truly gain momentum”.

Produced by Victor Tango Entertainment PVT LTD & Wobble Creative and Content LLP, the show included preeminent duos like Vishal Shekhar – Bappi Lahiri, Salim Suleiman – Pyarelalji, Sachin Jigar – Euphoria, Shantanu Moitra – Amaal Malik, Amit Trivedi – Agnee, Viju Shah – Mithoon, Rajesh Rohan – Himesh Reshammiya, Anand Milind – Sajid Wajid, Ajay Atul – Kalyanji Anandji, and Indian Ocean – Sneha Khanwalkar.

IT, pharma stocks lift market sentiment, HCL Tech top gainer

The National Stock Exchange were in the positive terrain with Nifty IT advancing by 3.3 per cent, pharma by 2.2 per cent, metal by 1.3 per cent and auto by 0.8 per cent.

Equity benchmark indices closed nearly 1 per cent higher on Tuesday in an extremely volatile session as investors weighed the impact of a new strain of Covid-19 on global economic recovery.

Fresh lockdowns in Britain and concerns over the near-term growth impact dampened investor sentiment worldwide. Indian markets, however, defied that trend. The BSE S&P Sensex closed 453 points or 0.99 per cent higher at 46,007 while the Nifty 50 edged up by 138 points or 1.03 per cent to 13,466.
All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the positive terrain with Nifty IT advancing by 3.3 per cent, pharma by 2.2 per cent, metal by 1.3 per cent and auto by 0.8 per cent.

Among stocks, HCL Technologies gained by 5.3 per cent to close at Rs 917 per share. Tech Mahindra was up by 4.1 per cent, Infosys by 3.6 per cent and Wipro by 2.9 per cent.

Adani Ports ticked up by 5.5 per cent to Rs 468.90 per share while Sun Pharma added gains of 2.6 per cent to wind up the day at Rs 566.90 per unit.
GAIL, Power Grid Corporation and Nestle India too close with gains of over 2.5 per cent.

Meanwhile, European stocks steadied in early trade after heavy losses a day earlier sparked by fears over a highly infectious new strain of Covid-19 as Washington approved an 892 billion dollar pandemic relief package.
But Asian shares slipped with Japan’s Nikkei down by 1.04 per cent and Hang Seng by 1.03 per cent.

The new strain of coronavirus, said to be up to 70 per cent more transmissible than the original, caused travel chaos and raised the prospect of food shortages days before Britain is set to leave the European Union.

Lampard says Chilwell ‘doubtful’ for Arsenal match

Lampard says Chilwell ‘doubtful’ for Arsenal match

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said it is “doubtful” that Ben Chilwell will be available for the club’s clash against Arsenal after the player picked up a blow during the match against West Ham.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said it is “doubtful” that Ben Chilwell will be available for the club’s clash against Arsenal after the player picked up a blow during the match against West Ham.

Chelsea secured a 3-0 win against West Ham in the Premier League on Tuesday but the only blot was an injury to Chilwell early on. The full-back rolled his right ankle after making a challenge and despite his best efforts, couldn’t run it off. Emerson Palmieri replaced Chilwell in the match.

“I expect he (Chilwell) will be doubtful for Arsenal. He turned his ankle, tried to carry on but it was too painful so we’ll have a scan or whatever tomorrow and try to see how bad he is,” the club’s official website quoted Lampard as saying.

After the match, Chilwell took to Twitter to write: “Back to winning ways. Hopefully, injury is not so bad.”
Thiago Silva scored the opening goal of the match in the 10th minute, followed by a late brace from Tammy Abraham which sealed a comfortable win for Chelsea.
Reflecting on the match, Lampard said it was a “beautiful” display from his team.

“The performance was really good against a team with the quality of West Ham and what they’re doing at the moment,” he said.
“Our defensive game was great. I wasn’t sure it would be a beautiful game because there was a bit of pressure today and they’re a good side but the lads dealt with that side of it really well,” Lampard added.
Sitting fifth on the Premier League table, Chelsea will take on Arsenal on Saturday.

Jammu And Kashmir DDC Election Results 2020 and ULB By-Polls Results Live Updates

The DDC elections in J&K were carried out for the first time after the state of Jammu and Kashmir was demoted to a Union Territory. Check out this space for live updates.

SRINAGAR (J&K) –

The fate of nearly 4,200 candidates for the 280 District Development Council (DDC) seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be made public today, as counting of votes began in the morning for the eight-phased polls held for the first time in the Union Territory.

Officials in the State Election Commission said that a total of 4,181 candidates, including over 450 women, were in the fray for the 280 DDC seats.

The elections to this three-tier of the Panchayati Raj system were held for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir and were the first mass polls after the abrogation of provisions of Article 370 in August 2019.

The polling was held in eight phases, beginning November 28 and ending on December 19 as 51 per cent of the 57 lakh eligible voters exercised their franchise in the elections, which were largely peaceful.

Seven Kashmir-centric mainstream political parties, including the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party, contested the polls in an alliance under the banner of People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) which was formed for the restoration of Article 370.

The Congress was initially a part of the PAGD but distanced itself from the alliance as the BJP targeted the opposition party for being in league with the ‘Gupkar Gang’. Although, the Congress went alone in the last seven phases, it is widely believed that its understanding with the PAGD remains intact.

The PAGD is expected to emerge as the single largest grouping at the hustings, followed by the BJP in a close second position while the Congress is expected to fill the third position.
