Stan Swamy recently filed a bail on grounds of his age and disability. The authorities said that he had no illness that couldn’t be treated in jail.
Stan Swamy, an 83-year-old man, is the founder of Bagaicha, an organisation working with tribals in Jharkhand on several issues including the detention of youth who are allegedly Maoists.
Father Stan Swamy as he is called, is a priest and tribal rights activist arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the Elgaar Parishad case, which led to the Bhima Koregaon violence.
He recently filed a bail on grounds of his age and disability. The authorities said that Stan Swamy had no illness that couldn’t be treated in jail.
Claiming to be an activist, NIA accused him and he had been detained along with 7 other accused on the 8th October 2020. The NIA believes Swamy is the face and the propagator of the Maoist agenda in the area. As per NIA, incriminating material and documents have been found from Stan’s laptop.
As per the latest statement by the NIA, Stan Swamy’s defence had filed an application in the NIA Court, Mumbai to get back his sipper and straw, which he falsely claimed to have been kept by NIA.
However, NIA has put the complete timeline of events in an official statement on social media.
Swamy’s lawyers allege that he was arrested due to the nature of his work and that the old man should be released.
Several individuals and netizens went berserk at Stan Swamy’s claim and even blamed the NIA for detaining an 83-year-old.
