“My father is not a weak-willed man,” says Kapil Pashankar, son of Gautam Pashankar

In an exclusive conversation with Digpu News, Kapil Pashankar talks about the latest developments in the Gautam Pashankar missing case.

The Chairman of Pune’s leading two-wheeler dealership agency in Pune, Pashankar Auto Pvt Ltd, went missing ten days ago on the 21st of October. Gautam Pashankar left a note stating none should be held responsible for his actions.

The note further said that Gautam Pashankar had been suffering losses in business for the last 3 years now and due to his decisions, his family is facing troubles. A missing complaint was also registered at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station, Pune.

In an exclusive conversation with Digpu News, Kapil Pashankar talked at length about the latest developments in the case.

Kapil said,” My father is not a weak-willed man to run away from anything, whatever the circumstances be. He is a strong person who has fought all hurdles and situations in his life. Even in the worst situations, we have held our moral high ground.”

About some severe situations in the past, Kapil remembers,” We are known for our automobile business. In the past, we had suffered some losses but we were never in denial about it. Me and my father, Gautam Pashankar, didn’t deter. We faced people, spoke to the banks and sorted out all the affairs. That’s how we bounced back smoothly.”

Gautam Pashankar‘s son Kapil Pashankar had earlier denied all such claims of any recent business turmoil leading to the incident. However, after taking cognizance of all recent events in his father’s life, Kapil Pashankar named few suspects yesterday in the Gautam Pashankar missing case.

“Now, I see no reason to do this. I work in a different office actually. However, after this incident, I went to my father’s office and tried to understand the intricacies of the situation. It was then that I suspected a few people whom I have named before the Commissioner Of Police recently.”

The Pune Police is working on every possible lead in the Gautam Pashankar missing case. An official in the Shivaji Nagar Police Station said that 5-6 search parties are working on the case tirelessly.

Gautam Pashankar’s son Kapil said, “I have done all that I could have. I have employed all resources I have. I have connected to all relatives, friends, acquaintances, even his school friends. What more can I say?”

He quickly adds,” My father is a simple man. Even if he has left the note himself, which is highly impossible that he has executed this all by himself. He has gone through a lot in his journey to date but he never spoke about it with an open heart. That’s because my father is a man of few words.”

On being asked about the approach of Pune Police to the Gautam Pashankar Missing case, Kapil Pashankar said,” The police is trying their best. The Police Commissioner and the police officer-in-charge of the case have assured me of a positive response.”

Airtel Broadband in J&K: High-Speed Internet a distant dream in J&K with Biannual and annual plans

Airtel Broadband in J&K: High-Speed Internet a distant dream in J&K with Biannual and annual plans

Jammu and Kashmir is already deprived of high internet speed. The fact that Airtel has made semi-annual and annual plans a compulsion in the UT only adds insult to injury.

Over 12 month after the Government Of India announced a blanket ban on internet services in Jammu and Kashmir, the Newly formed UT has still no access to high-speed internet.

While the country is getting ready to witness the 5G technology, most parts of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir are still struggling with 2G internet.

While BSNL remains a key player in the broadband service providers in J&K, several local players along with Airtel is trying to amass more subscriptions to its name. This competition comes with its own set of complications.

Airtel Broadband Services In J&K have only rolled out bi-annual and annual subscriptions as yet. The 100 Mbps connection for a bi-annual plan comes at INR 5230 (inclusive of taxes) while the 300 Mbps connection is priced at around INR 6450 (inclusive of taxes). After completion of the first 6 months, one can renew the subscription as per choice. There are monthly plans available after that.

Rajeev (name changed), who was forced to travel to his hometown J&K due to the pandemic says, “I live in a metro city. When flights to the UT were started, I came home. The biggest shock was the slow internet. It was difficult to even check my mails. I enquired on the Airtel and BSNL website. However, I did not get any response from both. Luckily, an acquaintance connected me to the right person from Airtel.”

While people have chosen Airtel over BSNL in most cases due to better speed, but not all can afford the bi-annual subscription in one go. The pandemic has left people struggling to make ends meet. Many people working from their homes and students who are now forced to be glued to their phones for studies are at the crossroads.

In conversation with Digpu News, an Airtel executive requesting anonymity said, “Rolling out only bi-annual and annual subscriptions to a new user is a strategy pushed from the Marketing Team of Airtel. Our services are new in the UT and we are trying to set our foot in the market.”

“Well, you see people are giving in to it because some people can’t compromise with their internet connection because their livelihoods now depend on their work-from-home schedules. We are definitely looking into easing the subscription for our customers, but at the moment, there is nothig else to say about it.”, the executive said.

On being asked about people unable to pay these heavy charges at once, the Executive said,” Earlier we use to charge around INR 80 per metre as the ground charge in addition to the installation charges. Now, there are just installation charges to be paid by the customer. I am sure we will roll out something better for our customers in the new year.”

We hope Airtel rethinks on their marketing strategies and tries to provide some relief to their customers.

IIT-Roorkee group creates bacterial biosensor to recognize polluting detergents

IIT-Roorkee group creates bacterial biosensor to recognize polluting detergents

Team of 5 members at IIT – Roorkee have built world’s explicit bacterial biosensor that detects the presence of ecological poison

The bacterial biosensor detects the presence of basic ecological poison, Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate/Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SDS).

SDS is broadly utilized in cleansers, toothpaste, creams, shampoos, clothing cleansers in housefolds, farming activities, research centers, and industries. Its disposal in waterways causes unsafe consequences for aquatic life forms, ecological microcosms, and related living beings other than deteriorating the nature of drinking water. This objective of the study was to develop a novel biosensor for the detection of a detergent Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate /Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SDS) in environmental samples.

“Until now, there were no specific biosensors developed to date for the detection of SDS with high precision. The IIT Roorkee team has developed a whole-cell biosensor using Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 strain as a framework (chassis). The system involves a highly specific regulator along with a fluorescent protein that is produced only when SDS is present in the sample. The system can even detect 0.1 ppm of SDS in aquatic samples,” the release stated.

This biosensor is explicit for SDS and has negligible impedance from other cleansers, metals, and inorganic particles present in the environment. In contrast to traditional techniques, it can undoubtedly recognize intently related cleansers SDS and SDBS (Sodium Dodecylbenzenesulfonate).

Pseudomonads have an inherent capability to be used as an optimal destination framework for synthetic biology applications. The selected species of Pseudomonas can be engineered to detect various chemicals owing to their resilient nature to survive and adapt to harsh environmental conditions. The highlight of this research is the development of the world’s first whole-cell bacterial biosensor for the direct, specific and efficient detection of SDS without involving sample preparation steps, toxic chemicals, sophisticated polymers and sensor development steps,” said Sourik Dey, final year MSc student at IIT Roorkee.

“SDS, if untreated, can harm the marine biodiversity and cause pollution of land and water-bodies. The highlight of this biosensor is its sensitivity to even minute quantities of SDS in the environment and its ability to distinguish between SDS and SDBS,” said Prof Naveen Kumar Navani, Department of Biotechnology, IIT Roorkee.

The biosensor showed a satisfactory and reproducible recovery rate for the detection of SDS in real samples of sewage water, river water, and pond water.

As per the release, SDS has diverse applications in the industrial sector as an emulsifier, food processing agent, stabilizer, leather softening, foaming, flocculating, and cleaning agent. It is the key pollutant in domestic discharges and industrial effluents. The constant deterioration of the quality of drinking water and the harm caused to marine life are some of the major concerns.

“SDS has harmful effects on the survival and breeding of organisms in the aquatic ecosystem as it hampers their biological processes such as solubilization of phosphate, reduction of ammonia, nitrogen fixation and photosynthesis,” the release said.

It can cause dermal and ocular irritation, cardiac anomaly, hemolysis, tachycardia, kidney failure, and even death. SDS can also disrupt biological wastewater treatment processes and cause problems in sewage aeration and treatment facilities owing to its high foaming capacity.
