Communal Harmony: Muslims cremate Sikh man with honour in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: While setting another example of communal harmony, Muslims in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday went all out to help in the cremation of a Sikh carpenter, hailing from Punjab.

The non-local, identified as Rakesh Singh, from Punjab died at his rented accommodation in Wakura village of Ganderbal district in Kashmir.

As the locals found it difficult to send the body to the deceased’s native village amid the Coronavirus-induced lockdown, they decided to cremate his body as per Jatt rites.

The local Muslims in Kashmir lifted the bier and chanted religious hymns in Sikh funeral

As per COVID-19 norms, doctors examined the body before cremation while those who participated in his last rites wore proper protective gears.

Touched by the gesture of local Muslims, the slain Sikh’s brother said, “We have been working in Kashmir from the past decade. I am overwhelmed by the approach of locals. They are great human beings. People across India should learn the principles of humanity from people of Kashmir.”

The local people also consoled the grief-stricken brother of the deceased and assured to provide all possible help. The local Muslims lifted the bier and even chanted religious hymns during the funeral procession. It is pertinent to mention here that Kashmiri Muslims often participate in the last rites of people from religious minorities including those Pandits who decided to stay in the Vale, when their relatives decided to migrate to Jammu and other parts of the country in 1990 to get out of the harm’s way in the midst of a cataclysmic upheaval after armed militancy broke out in the Himalayan

Coronavirus – Engine for digital transformation in Kashmir

With a Coronavirus-induced strict lockdown in place, the valley of Kashmir is seemingly going through a digital transformation.

Although, the social and economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic are difficult to predict at this point in time, however, it is having a profound impact on social life and the economy.

Along with concerns about the health of the population, fears of a serious economic crisis are looming large in the air as well. Due to the stringent restrictions, the existence of some businesses is already endangered; others have been able to retool their approaches in developing a different culture of work.

Mohammad Shamim, from a suburb in southern Kashmir’s Pulwama employees at least 12 employees in his wood carving unit. Since the time lockdown was imposed, the factory is shut but the unit has been able to fulfil orders from its stockpile. “Most of our customers prefer to pay us through e-transfer after the growing cases of Coronavirus emerged in the Valley. They seldom go to banks now,” Shamim says.

Next to Shamim’s factory, Nazir Mir runs a grocer’s shop. He has been permitted by the district authorities to run the shop from morning till 4 PM. After most of his customers asked for his bank account details in order to pay him money online, he has hanged a little banner in his shop with the same details. He says, “It was much needed as most of my customers asked for my bank details to pay for the items they bought from here. Going to places like banks is least preferred these days.”

The story is same for various other sectors and institutions in the Valley who are increasingly taking use of the digital resources to keep their businesses and work afloat during the worst pandemic crises created by COVID-19.

From teachers and professors taking to video sharing platforms like YouTube, bureaucrats and government officials holding meetings via video conferencing to businesses taking advantage of online payment channels, grocery stores taking orders on WhatsApp and students looking for avenues to study online, more and more people in Kashmir are using internet to lead the Valley towards a digital revolution.

Although the complaints of low internet speed keep finding space in news headlines across various newspapers and online news portals, people have largely embraced the new way of working and studying from home. Online communication tools are playing an essential part to keep the collaboration running smoothly and unhindered.

The pandemic might end anytime soon, but most of the changes brought about by the virus-induced lockdown will stay forever. It is expected that there will be increased levels of meetings and conferences held online even after the coronavirus pandemic ends, businesses will keep exploring new channels of online transactions and even a revamp of online classes is in the offing as more companies will be looking to cater to the needs of educational institutions.

A clear trend can, however, be forecasted. On the one hand, the majority of businesses/firms face acute negative effects of the crisis. On the other hand, most people are convinced that the COVID-19 crisis will contribute to technological progress in the long term and that, all in all, the digital economy will emerge from the current situation even stronger than before – a prospect that gives cause for hope in the face all of the negative news we are hearing at this time.

Dr Meenaa Mahaajjan’s Spiritual Perspective On COVID-19

In conversation with Digpu, Dr Meenaa Mahaajjan talks about how the world of today should have a spiritual perspective and decode the message of the planet.

Dr Meenaa Mahaajjan is a revered spiritual guide, speaker and a well-known social activist. The views not only reflect her spiritual incline but also speaks about some possible solution form a spiritual point of view.

Meenaa believes that humanity might need a deeper understanding of the coming times. Today’s time reminds me of Lord’s words, once spoken to Arjuna “Yada yada hi dharmasye glaanir bhavti bharateh, abhyuthaanam adharmasye tadatmaanam srijamayham”.

The lord says, “Whenever and wherever there has been a threat posed to righteousness in this world or universe, I have appeared to quell it.”

Meenaa further goes on to say that these tough times bring in her, a strange excitement, excitement to see HIM once again, an excitement to witness HIS quelling what is harming the righteousness. But it’s not that easy, unlike the times of Mahabharta, where those who posed a threat to the righteous thoughts, in other words, Dharma, stood on one side and those who were fighting to keep it, on the other.

Social News Digpu - Dr Meenaa Mahaajjan's Spiritual Perspective On COVID-19

In these times, we do not know who is on the other side, but, if one observes closely, one could see HIM set things right and when one starts to see ‘what’ is being set right, one also gets to ‘know’ who and what poses a threat to the righteousness of today’s time.

To enable all of us to see and notice this, let us understand the word Dharma. It definitely does not mean religion, and it definitely is not pointing towards a sect or race. Dharma is what is right, what is obvious, what has always remained, even when nothing remains!

Also Read: Dr Meenaa Mahaajjan Talks About Learning To Coexist And Inclusion In Nature

The truest meaning of Dharma is what is meant to be possessed, something on which every living being on this earth has a right upon and that is to remain happy. Where no one uses the other to gain happiness but co-exists to find happiness… where everyone lives in a personal domain and does not trespass into another’s periphery in other words, where everyone knows ones Maryada and respects the Maryada of the other too. In the battle of Mahabharta, the Lord had declared that although HE will rule the happenings and the result of this great war, HE will not raise even HIS finger to influence the win, leave alone HIS mighty weapons!

About the realisation of faith in real life, Meenaa Mahaajjan says, “Yes, I can see HIM… O Lord, I can see you. I can see you restoring the damage inflicted on Earth’s nature, I can see you define its domain, its periphery. I can see you show the humans their domain, their Maryada, their periphery and YOU are doing this in the politest manner possible. Those who will understand your doings will remain, those who will bow unto you will remain, those who promise You to adhere will remain. O LORD, how I wish to see you in form, as I know that YOU are around, YOU are here in this world that I live, YOU are so near to me that I can smell your fragrance, which is so similar to the fragrance of fresh air, freshwater, fresh ether. “

She further says that the Lord has come down to teach us Dharma once again. Those who wish to know when all this will end must know that this war will end only when we bow down to promise HIM, that we have received the message loud and clear, that we will keep HIS property, HIS world with the utmost care and respect the domain of each living being on this EARTH.

Always remember, we have come on this EARTH of HIS to learn this Dharma, because only then will we know the nuances of living in the world where HE Lives, our Final Abode.

PM Modi’s “Aatma Nirbhar” Relief Package: A Call for Promotion of Local Indian Brands?

Prime Minister‘s “Aatma Nirbhar” Relief Package amidst Covid-19 crisis calls for a spike in the demand for advertising of Indian brands

LD Sharma, Managing Director Mayhigh Films gives his valuable insights on the implications of the recently announced stimulus package on MSMEs, buying local and the need to advertise to create brand visibility in support of “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat” and  Make in India Abhiyan.

Prime Minister Modi’s big announcement of Rs. 20 lakh crore stimulus relief package, equivalent to 10% of India’s GDP; will help to deal with the economic crisis due to Covid-19. He believes this booster shot will play an important role in the ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’, which would make India self-reliant and face the post-COVID-19 repercussions. This move is a push for Indian local brands to advertise and make their products visible at a national level, to begin with, and eventually position themselves to face global competition.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman detailed out PM Modi’s relief package and announced s Rs. 3 lakh crore collateral-free loans for businesses and infuse capital of Rs 50,000 cr in the MSMEs in an effort to help them expand. This will be a step towards the Self-Reliant campaign and support Make in India.

“The roll-out of collateral-free loans will inject much-needed liquidity in the unorganised retail sector, leading to business expansion & local brand promotion through digital or TV Advertising,” says LD Sharma, Managing Director, Mayhigh Films

“It’s an opportune time for thousands of local brands to showcase their products and services and urge their countrymen to buy locally. As a result, it calls for an immediate need for advertising and branding to attract the attention of local buyers,” he adds.

Finance Minister Sitaraman also points out that Indian brands have faced tough competition from their foreign counterparts. To tackle this, she announced global tenders in government procurement up to Rs. 200 crores will be disallowed. An excellent opportunity to encourage local brands so they can reinvent themselves at par with the global standards. This will also lead to a reduction in imports of goods and services from foreign lands, thereby, stimulating the use of homegrown brands.

In view of the above, advertising and branding will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between the seller and the buyer. Sharma with 17 years of experience in the Media industry says” the need for branding should be at its peak especially for the SMEs who have ignored the power of advertising due to lack of awareness. It is time they reach out to their audience on a large scale, owing to the fact that there will be lesser disruption from global brands.”

He goes on to explain that in these times when instant brand visibility is the need of the hour, Television is arguably the biggest ad vehicle mainly attributed to its unscalable reach and undivided viewer attention that makes for incredibly effective marketing. “Struggling MSMEs that consider TV advertising expensive can run non-FCT on regional news channels and can get a good ROI. News channels these days are on boom & with limited budget they provide the option of B2B & B2C marketing .To tap the national market, they can opt for the top 10 news channels and get effective returns. A non-FCT campaign does not require a TVC which takes up most of the advertising budget.” says Sharma

With the proliferation of digital media, Customers spend a lot of time online, so marketing efforts must be directed to draw them on these platforms. Digital branding has the power of effective marketing, helps businesses’ increase their reach, and leads to a constant generation of leads. A few strategies that can be adopted

  • Corporate films. 2-5 minute videos that serve the same purpose as a website does only in a video format. Highly recommended for upcoming businesses to showcase their offerings to the world with an interesting narrative, audio, and video format. They are easily shareable on social media, are much more interactive and easier to remember.
  • YouTube promotional videos. Short product demo videos (2-3 minutes) offer consumers a visual insight into the usage and functioning of the product, helping new and existing users to better understand its features, its value, and its potential
  • Paid social media ads on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin
  • Host and sponsor virtual events/webinars
  • Publish native content articles on digital news portals regularly

All these efforts will lay the foundation for a confident India which can rest on its strengths and also contribute to the globe. It the best time for Indian products to establish themselves as brands by advertising and turn this short-term crisis to a long-term financial opportunity.

How to be the one that’s unique?

LD Sharma, MD, Mayhigh Films, Delhi explains the evolution of a product to a brand. He talks about how being distinctive is the need of the hour and shares the mantra to nail it.

What could be a company’s biggest tangible asset? No points for guessing. It’s undoubtedly a well-known and loved brand. In a sea of competition, how can you make your product stand out for it to be called a “BRAND” is serious business?

“Every entrepreneur instinctively understands the need for uniqueness, but finding true distinctiveness proves to be a ‘catch me if you can’ kind of situation,” says LD Sharma Co-Founder & MD, Mayhigh Films.

Mayhigh Films focuses on all aspects of creative advertising and effective media planning & buying so that a potential brand gets its unique identity which is the ultimate business objective of any organisation (big or small)”, Sharma added.

With his vast media industry experience spanning over 17 years, Sharma knows the tricks of the trade and lists out the process of building a successful brand.

1. Align brand strategy with overall business objectives

Getting the brand strategy right so that it is aligned with the overall business objectives is half the battle won. Recognising business goals early on in the process will set the stage for developing a strong and unique brand. If you are clear on where you want to take your firm, your brand will help you get there.

2. Define your brand and its objective

To know a brand’s objective is to know its purpose. What is the reason for its existence, what it stands for, what is its personality like if it were a person?

3. Identify the target group (TG) and competition

Who all are most likely to buy your product? If you can crack this question, you have hit the blindspot bang on!!! Do not forget to establish an emotional connection with your audience.

Competition analysis is supremely important as it will help you understand what differentiates you from the competition. It will also help identify the loopholes in the market, unleash market trends, develop improved products, market, and sell more effectively.

4. Develop your brand positioning

The idea is to establish the image of the product so that the consumers perceive it in a certain way. For eg., positioning it as a luxury status symbol or focus on its cutting-edge technology… Ensure what you promise is what you deliver.

5. Develop your messaging strategy

The messaging strategy must intertwine with brand positioning and should be conveyed consistently. It must capture the most relevant points to grab the eyeballs of the prospective buyers.

6. Develop a name, logo, and tagline.

The company’s reputation is defined by its brand. The brand identity – its name, logo, and tagline must be in tandem with the company’s ethos.

7. Set a marketing budget

Plan the advertising mix-TV, print, radio, outdoor, or digital. If the goal is to reach the masses; TV Advertisement, outdoor, and newspaper advertising is recommended. TV Advertisement outperforms other mediums when the aim is to get instant brand visibility because of its unscalable reach and undivided audience attention. Hence, it’s inclusion becomes crucial in a media plan.

For a more focused approach, digital and content marketing strategies should be adopted. Allocating budgets for the appropriate promotional variables within the advertising mix to achieve the best marketing result poses a big challenge for advertisers.

8. Create effective content around the brand

Today’s audience is smart and well-informed. They want to know the inside-out of the brand they have set their minds on. Here, content marketing comes into play as it not only increases awareness but also educates the consumer on product nuances. For starters, the website is the most important brand-building tool. It is like a window to the offerings you have for the world out there. The more relevant and well optimised the content is, the more likely it is to reflect in your SEO efforts so the prospects spot you no matter what.” A well-shot Corporate Video also serves the same purpose as a website does only in a video format, is much more interactive and easier to remember. It should be the future of a brand storytelling process in the time to come” Sharma points out.

Creative content like youtube ads, social media posts, blogs, etc also helps in lead generation. “Astute marketers convert run-off -the mill information and transform it into a sensational narrative that has a character, argument, and hidden call-to-action.” Sharma quips.

9. Hire A Media Planning Agency

Agencies know the best market practices and how to maximise your budget to yield effective results. Also, it is always good to get an outside perspective for a balanced approach.

10. ROI Monitoring

Any investment is a mere expenditure if it does not lead to profitability. Discuss with your agency on how to generate ROI through advertising. “Keep a track if advertising is worthwhile, reach the right conclusions, and make appropriate adjustments to achieve the overall business goals” he concludes.

India can be the epicentre of global investments, says Ankit Pradhan

India can be the epicentre of global investments, says Ankit Pradhan

Mr Ankit Pradhan speaks on how India handled the pandemic and the impacts on India after the COVID-19 lockdown ends. He discusses how India will emerge winner after this COVID-19 chaos.

It can be said that the global economy has already entered into a great recession. Superpowers like Italy or America or France or Germany is already the worst affected. A lot many industries such as Travel and Tourism, Hospitality, F&B, Entertainment, Automobile, White Goods, IT, Retail are suffering huge losses, and there is no visible ray of hope any sooner.

In comparison to the developed nations around the world, India has dealt with pandemic very well. The containment of COVID-19 to the current levels is noteworthy.

For foreign investors, India could be the top bet as it already has plans to have more open trade and investment policy. Besides, India is also considered to share values and interest that align closely with the western democracies.

Pre-COVID amidst the global financial crisis, companies like Apple, Nintendo, HP, Dell were already planning to move as rapid wage growth in china outplaced labour productivity growth.

“Not only can India boast of having highly skilled labour, impressive entrepreneurial talent, a large internal consumer market and thriving private enterprises, but India’s analytic, financial, technical, and management services are also world-class”, says Mr Ankit Pradhan, Founder and CEO, Realtyassistant.

Developed nations like Japan has announced setting up of a $2.2-billion fund, to help its manufacturers for shifting of their production out of China as the coronavirus disrupted supply chains between the major trading partners. Other developed countries are also likely to urge their investors to follow a similar strategy.

Investment News Digpu - India can be the epicentre of global investments, says Ankit Pradhan
Ankit Pradhan, Founder and CEO, Realtyassistant

American and Europian economies have taken a significant hit, and now the foreign investors have to look for destinations with comparatively low operation and production costs and a local supply chain in place. Furthermore, businesses want to de-risk in having supply chain concentrated in one area and try to diversify and disperse.

Mr Ankit Pradhan, Founder and CEO, Realtyassistant further adds, “India is among the top FDI destinations in the world; it is evident from the fact that last year India received half of the total of previous twenty years of FDI investment.”

India did receive a sum of $64.37 billion of FDI in 2018-19, which is a 6 per cent jump over the2017-18, at a time when global FDI flow was declining. UNCTAD, India compiled the Global Investment Trend Monitor report which shows India among the top 10 recipients of FDI in the year 2019, resulting in attracting $49 billion in inflows, a 16 per cent increase from the previous year.

Meanwhile, India is emerging as a reliable alternative to China for foreign companies invested in manufacturing and sourcing. India has to work on positioning itself as a global services hub in sectors like Pharmaceuticals and the integration of India in the worldwide supply chain is to be seen.

‘Invest India’ has joined hands with the Top global consultancy firms like Bain & Co, EY, PwC, BCG, KPMG, Primus Partners, and Mirae Asset Management to make out an economic revival strategy. Our country can meet this requirement as incentives allow fast-tracking of manufacturing, especially in special economic zones (SEZs) and free trade zones.

India has allocated about US$6 billion to boost domestic manufacturing and to attract investment and incentivise electronics and components manufacturing and exports in the country. This move was announced as a part of India’s ambition to become a US$1 trillion economy by 2025.

The official trade and investment regulator of the country, the Department of Promotion for Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) notified changes to India’s foreign direct investment (FDI) policy.

The above step was taken in turn to restrict any wrong buying of Indian businesses by the Chinese companies or state-run institutions. These changes now make government clearance mandatory – for all FDI inflows from countries that share land borders with India.

Lately, UP Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath has also promised tailor-made facilities to giants like FedEx, Cisco and Adobe for moving facility to Uttar Pradesh.

The FDI policy is already tightened to prevent any opportunistic takeovers or acquisition of Indian companies due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, India has an opportunity to become a sustainable, resilient and diverse economy. It looks like India is all set to emerge as a post-COVID winner.
